What Is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is guided hypnosis, or a trance-like state of focus and concentration achieved with the help of a clinical hypnotherapist. This trance-like state is similar to being completely focused on a meditation. Clients can turn their attention completely inward to find and utilize the natural resources deep within themselves that can help them make changes or regain control in certain areas of their life.

Hypnotherapy is an excellent approach to anxiety, phobias and addictions such as smoking because it works with the subconscious beliefs that are typically difficult to access in every day life.

What to Expect in a Session

Clinical hypnotherapy is performed in a calm, therapeutic environment. Emma will guide you into a relaxed, focused state and ask you to think about experiences and situations in positive ways that can help you change the way you think and behave.  You will hear Emma’s suggestions, but it is up to you to decide whether or not to act on them so you are fully in control.

Hypnotherapy for Anxiety

Everyone is familiar with feeling stressed, worried or nervous about something. Usually, these feelings disappear quickly but for those with anxiety these feelings last longer,  can be much more intense and affect the way someone lives their life.

If you have anxiety, you may find that you avoid certain situations because you’re worried about experiencing a panic attack or feelings of being unsafe or out of control. This can make even everyday tasks difficult and hold you back from doing the things you want.

What causes Anxiety?

Anxiety comes from the adrenal glands in the Endocrine System which is designed to protect us through the fight, flight or freeze response in the body. If our brains perceive a threat or danger, it releases hormones to prepare us to deal with it. These hormones include adrenaline and cortisol, and they make us feel alert. Because of the stress involved in coping with modern life our adrenal glands are continuously producing adrenaline and cortisol – they never switch off, they never get a break. This leads to anxiety.
